Charlie Dunn called into our studios today chatting to Alan Newman and making us aware of the effect Type 1 Diabetes can have on a person, particularly if it happens to be a very small child, as in Charlie's case. His son being only nine months old when diagnosed with this illness, causing distress and heartache, as a small child, could not relate how as to how he was feeling, the result, a sharp eye being kept on him. This experience prompted Charlie into thinking of ways he could help his son, through JDRF whose aim is improving lives, curing Type 1 diabetes.
He decided on a sponsored bike ride over a period of six days through six countries from Orsett to Luxembourg, with the chosen destination coming about, due to Charlie having a relative living in Luxembourg.
JDRF Luxembourgcycle made up of a team of six who will be cycling 500 miles across six countries in six days and they are all are amateur cyclists. It was agreed they would try to raise £10,000, even before the journey starts a princely sum of £5,291.85 has been raised.
